Online Education

Learning, as they say, never ends. Each of us keeps on studying as long as he lives. But knowledge has attained a more practical connotation these days. Promotions and career advancements currently become increasingly dependent on academic qualifications and degrees. Gone are the days, when only practical exposure and hands on experience in job were crucial criteria for climbing up the corporate ladder. This has thrown lot of persons, who have spent years in their job in a quandary. Thus, most of them feel sidelined and are overtaken by those, who are way behind in experience, but have college degrees. So, the need for specialized diploma has suddenly assumed bigger importance for whole number of vastly experienced people and they are now desperately in search of degrees to be at par with their younger, but more qualified colleagues. Online education seems heaven sent for these people.

But, what exactly is this new phenomenon called "online education"? Well, it is not only new form of learning as such. It is modern method, in which education is delivered to students. All of us are aware of the more conventional and widespread notion of current studying as it is imparted in schools, colleges and universities. A student has to attend a class at a predetermined time and be guided by the instructor all along the course. The instructor usually explains a particular topic and at the end of the course, takes a test to gauge how much students have been able to understand and imbibe from what has been taught. Online education does all these, but the medium of interaction is not face-to-face, instead Internet is used as medium of communication between the teacher and the taught.

The immediate and obvious benefit, which meets the eye, is, that the student need not relocate in order to attend particular school, college or university lecture and participation can be done from the comfort of home through Internet. So, this allows all those, who are in a regular job to enroll in particular e-course, as they need not shift from the cities, where they work only in order to attend classes. But, there is another vexed issue, that needs solution before returning students make a beeline for online education. That is, again quite obviously, the problem of adjusting class timings and office hours. If particular student cannot attend his lecture, as it is being live webcast, it can be viewed at convenience, since all these lectures are recorded and are available for enrolled students.
